"He gets pissed off and knocks over a mime. My hero."
Men in drag! Ugly men in drag! I'm certain Hoffman won't take offense, because it's what made this movie. That was such a lie. Cause Robin Williams is ugly too, but Doubtfire sucks. What made this movie is excellent writing. It is damned funny. But it's not dependant on the humor to make the movie. Hoffman's excellent acting, and the major plotline not being comedic, but romantic are what make this movie worth all that it is. I've seen this movie over 5 times, and it's always enjoyable.
Hoffman. In drag. Abusing mimes. AND Geena Davis in her underwear. It doesn't GET any better than this.
To summarize for those who have lost out: Michael Dorsey is an actor in NYC. He's such a bitch to work with that no one will give him a job. To get work, he dresses in drag and lands a job on a soap. There he falls in love with Jessica Lange (who wouldn't) but he can't tell her he's you know, a man. He needs to woo her away from an asshole liar. Comedy ensues.
The supporting cast is excellent as well. Bill Murray is charming in every scene. As is Teri Garr, whom normal I can't stomach. The movie is excellently constructed. Subplots are so amusing. It can be watched over and over again, because, well, for me anyways, there is always mroe to be discovered. But I'm not terribly attentive.Basically, I love the portrayal of the acting scene in NYC as much as the romance, the comedy, the drama. But I realize most people couldn't possibly care less. And that's why they put Hoffman in drag! 5 sporks.
