"I have forgotten this film 2 days after veiwing it."
One test of a film for me is if I keep thinking about it or if it creeps into my conversations. Best Laid Plans fails at both these hurdles. It was however not too bad at the time.A tale of people desperate to get out of a small going nowhere kind of town can have two endings, first that the escape is made or that the virtues of the small town are rediscovered by the characters. It was perhaps brave to not choose either of these scenarios but ultimately unsatisfying. The downfall were some of the blatant pointers to conflicts that would arise between our two male leads were clumsy, as was the set-up for the ultimate "twist". I have that in inverted comma's because if you don't pick it then you are a newcomer to this genre (and good luck to you because you might have found this example worthwhile). It is more in retrospect that I am feeling dissapointed. I enjoyed some of the moments at the time such as the hard man explaining some basic fundamentals of economics, and how these effect them both in this situation. It is not worth watching just for these scattered moments. The predictability of the script and the lack of thoughtful dialog ensure that this film will be forgotten by all before the turn of the century, and that aint far away friends. (I felt I had to point that out), though I know you will have figured it out for yourself, If you didn't then go and see this film because you won't guess the plot, even after my hints. There are better things to do, better things to see and better ways to spend your hard earned buck. Only see this film if you are desperate for a fix of one of the three leads.
