"yet another Sandra Bullock vehicle that's as slow as 28k modem"
In the tradition of your crappy generic hollywood "intrigue" films comes "The Net".The net is the internet of course. Sandra Bullock is the star. She's supposed to be some hot-shit computer consultant. What do we see her doing at the beginning of the film? Beta-testing "Wolfenstein 3d". Oh yeah, real high tech, honey. This film was made around the time of Quake 1, so you'd think they could have at least showed her playing "Doom".
That's the problem with this movie. Not only is it woefully ignorant of technology, but it fails to cover up that ignorance with a shred of interesting plot. Sandra goes on vacation, gets seduced by some guy with a brit accent, and finds herself pulled into the intrigue of "The Net". The gist is that there is some hacker program out there that makes breaking into the CIA's mainframe look about as easy as finding lesbian porn on yahoo. Speaking of which, that would be a much better use of your time than this movie. If you want a Bullock action movie that didn't completely suck, rent "Speed". Stay away from this - unless of course you're an AOL user with a 28k modem and a Pentium 90mhz, in which case you'll be right up to speed with this film.
