"best macho flick ever made"
5 stars

You want macho? You got it. This is the movie about men with balls the size of texas. Men with guts and fearlessness and that right stuff stuff.

This is one of my all time favourite films, incredibly well made, acted, and scripted.

It follows the history of 8 test pilots, 1, Chuck Yeager and his breaking of the speed of sound barrier, and the other 7 who became America's Mercury Astronauts (hurray!).

The movie is funny, suspenseful (even though we all know John Glenn made it back, you're still sitting on the edge of your seat when the capsule is frying him on the way down), touching, fucking great great great.

The characters are incredibly interesting and well developed and I just can't say enough about the cinematography, the score, and the fantastic special effects (which don't overwhelm the film in any way, but add an completely realistic account).

Sam Shephard is Chuck Yeager and Ed Harris is John Glenn, and dammit, if that ain't the best acting either of those to guys had ever done.

I watch this movie at least once a year, and it's been out since 1983 so do the math <g>
