Where does he get all those wonderful toys?See this one. Skip the rest. The rest bring this movie down. Big time. 'Cause this is a really good flick. Tim Burton is the man. Well, he was in'89. I have my doubts sometimes, but hot damn did he come through for us on this one.
Who doesn't know the story? Batman vs. the Joker. Revenge, intrigue, action, tights and gadgets! Yeah! It's entertaining and simple. One hero, one villain, one love interest. It worked then. Why'd the double or triple those elements in the other movies? I don't understand.
But we're talking about this movie. Sorry. This movie rocks. A great adaptation of the comic. It really brought in the atmosphere that made the comic great. Tim Burton can do "disturbing". And "disturbing" makes this movie. Written brilliantly as well. And no one but Nicholson could immortalize, "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?" The acting is...good for the leads. Kim Basinger is Kim Basinger. Early Kim. But she's an object. So it doesn't matter. Keaton is my favorite Batman. 'Cause he's got the eyebrows. And he knows what's up. He's not tryin to make Wayne anything he's not. Bruce Wayne is the millionaire playboy. And he's mad at the world since his parents got killed. That's all. And he's a hero who wears a cape and drives the batmobile. The movie doesn't need throwaway lines. It's funny because of Jack and because of the quality writing. It doesn't need to be stupid to entertain. That's a key point that I wish Hollywood would understand. Yes, sometimes stupid and entertaining is acceptable. But when will they realize that intelligent doesn't mean a boring period piece. There is such a thing as intelligent, amusing filmmaking. This is one such movie. 5 sporks.
