"Bill Paxton is da man - so long as he's not BEHIND the camera"
"One False Move" is one of those low-rent indie cop-noir movies that rises above thanks to some good writing and casting.Bill Paxton is small town Arkansas sherriff Dale Dixon, a married pillar of the community who has a dirty little secret that's about to come back and haunt him. Cynda Williams is Lila, the pretty mulatta girl who has fallen in with some really nasty drug dealers.
As Lila and the dealers make their way across the country to Lila's home town (which is Dixon's beat), two L.A. cops, anticipating their moves, show up to wait for them. Dixon has got stars in his eyes, as he's always dreamed of getting out of his shitsplat of a town and becoming a big city detective. However, his enthusiasm is met with ridicule by the city cops. Meanwhile Lila's dealer friends are having themselves a nice little cross-country crime spree, when all Lila wants to do is get back to her baby that is being kept at her mother's place. The film ties each of these character's stories together, leading to the inexorable climactic confrontation.
Drive-In Triple Feature Picks for One False Move
Lone Star - John Sayles' epic about small town texas murder.
Blood Simple - More small town murder hijinks from the Coen brothers.Decent acting, good character development, and a satisfying shootout and plot twist at the end. That Cynda Williams is fine!
