"Sometimes you have to take the law of the schoolyard into your own hands."
I loved this movie when I saw it on the big screen in 1980. Its a great buddy story, coming of age tale about friends, fateful interwinings, growing up and breaking through limiting barriers. It doesn't shield the adolescent mind-set, My Bodyguard validates it.Or, its about a new kid at school, a motorcycle, a bully and a recluse with a bad reputation who is one part Boo Radley, One part Fozzy Bear.
Or its about two outcasts from different ends of the social spectrum who bond over a shared purpose and in the process become friends. I don't think parents really understand that high school has its own rules and when you are a teenager, you have to play by the rules that govern your social world. Thats just how it is. When the rules include blood and money, you are in for some trouble. Unless you can start making alliances and changing the rules.
Bare-knuckle fist fights on film were more realistic in those days.Joan Cusacks first film role at 18 years old, beating her brother John to the screen by 3 years.
