"A smart and dark comedy that manages to let the audience in on the joke."
Kurt Russel was a computer who wore tennis shoes and he escaped from LA and NY. Now check him out as a seedy politician wanna-be who is friggin' fantastic at selling junk cars.I can see this as a companion piece to Glengarry Glen Ross. Sure, this one is a comedy, but the tactics it shows are real (even though they are exaggerated) and the filmmakers have a good time showing the seedy sides of both professions. Politics and used-car sales: two professions that employ the same tactics in seizing their prey.
Forget who stars in it and what date it was released. This was a movie on the cutting edge of showing women's breasts. Who thought an automobile could show off a woman's rack so efficiently?
But this is not your average example of T&A = funny movie.
There are sharp jabs at things a lot of people hold sacred. Sex, death, politics, and cars. But the jabs have a wicked taste because, regardless of the road you have tilled, you'll be able to relate to the basic concept of "getting paid at all costs."
That is what Used Cars is all about. Get paid -- and maybe get your kisser on a campaign poster.
This movie is an unlikely classic. Like Blazing Saddles, it certainly helped pave the way for sharp and scathing humor.
Do yourself a favor. Rent this movie. Shut off your mind. Get HIGH (on life, that is.)
The Horse is back.A solid, sometime hilarious movie. Manages to avoid being dated ... because our government is as shady as these fucking Used Car guys are.
