"Super-Hero"
4 stars

Sweetly romantic film, about an alien from outer space (Jeff Bridges) and the poor woman (Karen Allen) who falls in love with him.

"Starman" sounds like the title of an early-eighties album from Foreigner, or Jefferson Starship, and, indeed, the film plays out like a movie version of a power ballad, with true love, pure romance and highway journeys aplenty.

Bridges' alien takes the human form of Allen's dead husband, who she's never stopped loving. At first rattled by his "reappearance", she soon warms to his charms, and falls in love with him. Foolishly, for he's determined to rendevous with the mothership, ASAP.

Touching without ever being cloying, the movie has an absolutely beautiful "eighties" heart.
