"It has a monkey in it! That's worth SOMEthing..."
Mmmm... Meg Ryan.I adore Meg Ryan. In my mind she can do no evil. So be warned, this review is biased.
Well, not entirely. I realize this movie is not great. The plot is flimsy and predictable, the dialogue somewhat lacking, but it's a romantic comedy and it serves its purpose very well.
Matthew Broderick is the lead. He is engaged. His girlfriend goes away. He stalks her. He meets Meg Ryan, who is stalking her boyfriend who left her. They set up surveillance across the street and spy on their respective exs who are now together.
..and they fall in love.
Meg's ex is french. I like to imagine that he's the same character as from French Kiss and that movie didn't really work out all perfect after all (Haha, I'm evil).
This flick had excellent costuming. All of Meg Ryan's clothes were awesome in a weird and wacky, I'm-a-stalker kind of way.
It was cute and sweet and predictable, and all the actors did a damned good job with what little they were handed, and we grow to love who we are supposed to and hate who we are supposed to. It really is quite good for a formulaic romantic comedy. Thus 4 sporks, keeping in mind that rating is "as a romantic comedy".
