Define irony: a bunch of idiots dancing around on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash.Mindless fun, really.
Nic Cage is a Ranger (military, not Texas or New York) who kills a man in self-defense (but because he's a Ranger, his hands are 'lethal weapons') and gets sent to prison. When he gets out, he's forced to ride home on an air transport loaded with convicts, hence the name Con Air.
Problem is, the cons, led by Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom (John Malkvich, chewing scenery for all he's worth) take over the plane. So Cage, who just wants to get home to his wife and kid, has to try and stop them, while the authorities (led by John Cusack) do the same.
It's not a great film, and it's not even a good action film for Nicolas Cage (Face/Off would be released 3 weeks later). But Malkovich makes it watchable, and Cage isn't bad either.A decent rental, so long as Face/Off isn't in.
