Please give this movie a chance. Think of the vampires. Seriously, it WAS NOT BAD! If it's a choice between this and some of the other shit that's in theaters, HEAD FOR THE SEXY VAMPIRE! Okay, that's enough propaganda. Have I mentioned that Stuart Townsend is mind-numbingly sexy?Let me say, right out, that I love Anne Rice novels. So, right off, as with all the movie versions of books I love, I EXPECTED it to suck major ass.
It could have been much worse. Really. All the reviews I’ve seen are bad, and that’s a bit unfair. I have seen movies that blew this one away, yes, but I have also seen movies that were TRULY hideous. (read: Batman and Robin. Euuurgh.)
Let me say this: Stuart Townsend made the movie. I am a chick who loves goth guys. If you are male, I doubt you’ll enjoy it as much, but I was just sitting there the entire time, with a puddle of drool collecting in my lap. He is beautiful, beautiful – and about a million times better as Lestat than Tom Cruise was. (Fie! Fie on Tom Cruise! He ruined Lestat!)
But enough of that, I’m ranting. All you need to know is, Stuart is good. Very good. In fact, he’s just a lust-muffin.
More reasons to see the movie: the soundtrack is kick-ass. Like, REALLY kick-ass. Linkin Park, Manson, Static-X, Disturbed, Orgy, Deftones, Papa Roach, they all had a hand in it, and the score is enough to make the movie worth it, if you’re a fan of heavy metal. Plus, Stuart T. lip-syncs to most of it, which is just an extremely sexy sight all together. =>
I know they were forced to do some interesting editing when that chick who played the Queen was killed, but I honestly did not notice. (And no, it wasn’t because I was staring at Lestat’s nipples, either. Really. I did not notice the editing.)
Repeat: the soundtrack was kickass. In fact, this review would be better if it wasn’t the wee hours of the morning right now, but I NEEDED to stay up and download all 14 of the songs on that mama.
Let’s see if I can wake up long enough to give a coherent mini-review: This movie is an extremely erotic, somewhat slashy (if you know what that means, bless you!), dramatic, and interesting one. There is no in-depth plot, the girl that Lestat ends up with is really, really dippy, and Marius is uglier than I’ve pictured him, but other than that, it’s a fun see. Really.As an accomplished Anne Rice fan, I give this movie the thumbs down, but as an obsessed-with -sexy-vampires-person, it totally gets the thumbs UP! Don’t go if you’re expecting anything really staggeringly brilliant, but lord… I’d let Lestat suck my neck ANY day. =)
