"Why did Bill Murray do this? And what was that elephant movie?"
What about this movie? I don't know, there's not much.Don't get me wrong, this is some funny shit. But the substance! The substance! It's...where is it? It's not here, that's for sure.
But first, a summary: Bill Murray is nuts. His Psychiatrist, Richard Dreyfuss, is sick of him. he needs a vacation anyways. But Murray tracks him down, and Dreyfuss's family lets him stay at their summer home. Madness ensues.
This is a very funny movie. However, I KNOW both main actors are capable of so much more. It's disappointing to see them struggle so. BUT Charlie Korsmo is in it. I like him. He's cute. And he's pretty damned good in it. He's not a joke. Almost everyone else is. Murray is extremely stereotypical, his antics themselves aren't funny. *He* is, because they amde him a joke. Dreyfuss is the biggest joke. He's like not even a person. He makes no sense and is just a big crazy joke. The daughter and wife are so predictable and objectified I wonder why they're even there.
I am perhaps exaggerating the bad points of this movie. There are lots of laughs. And if you suspend disbelief and are looking for a very light hearted, light-on-substance comedy, then this is more than fine. It's great. However, I'm only giving it 3 sporks because of unfulfiled promise. The premise warranted a 5 star comedy, and the cast too. Someone messed up.
